Presentation Prep 2 Flashcards
Critical Lens
What does everyone laughing at her mean - What does this prove true?
By showing that everyone is laughing while Ha is being treated like this, the image that’s being created, shows that people around her agreed with these harmful actions. During this time racism was common and people accepted this behavior.
Authorial Lens
Because the author is Viet… (what she went through)
Based on the authors Vietnamese background, it is likely that Ha’s troubles could be a reflection of what she has experienced during the war.
Personal Lens
How is laughing described-wat do show?-wat show abt rasicm?-what u feel
By describing the people around her laughing in a mocking way the author
was able to create an image, displaying how Ha is currently feeling and represents how racism can be psychologically painful for victims. This can cause the reader to
feel sympathy and possibly relate to her, helping people understand her more.
Extention Question
wat shown in pic- wat show abt chara thoughts-why treat bad?
Mrs. Scott shows pictures of the war in vietnam, failing to show the students the good parts of Ha’s country. She and other characters all see Vietnam as a place where communists live and war is always happening. With this stereotype, people start perceiving refugees like Ha as bad people, seeing them and treating them negatively.
