present tense of regular -er verbs
remove the -er ending, add endings
endings = e, es, e, ons, ez, ent
verbs ending in -cer
-c becomes -ç before the letter o
verbs ending in -ger
-g becomes -ge before the letter o
verbs ending in -e + consonant + -er
some accent changes occur, an accent grave is added in all but first and second person plural eg. for acheter, lever, mener
j’achète, tu achètes, il/elle achète, nous achetons, vous achetez, ils/elles achètent
verbs ending in -é + consonant + -er
the é changes to an è in all but first and second person plural
eg. for répéter, célébrer, considérer, espérer, gérer, posséder, préférer
je répète, tu répètes, il/elle répète, nous répétons, vous répétez, ils/elles répètent
verbs ending in -e + l + -er
some take two ls in all but the first and second person plural
eg. appeler, épeler, rappeler, renouveler
depuis
is used when the action described is going on
used with the present tense
eg. Julie travaille à Paris depuis deux mois
