What are boot Verbs?

A

Boot verbs are verbs that have a stem change in the yo, tú, él/ella/usted, and ellos/ellas/ustedes forms (i.e., all forms inside the “boot” shape when conjugated in a chart). The nosotros and vosotros forms do not undergo stem changes.

e → ie: cerrar, comenzar, empezar, entender, pensar, perder, preferir, querer, sentir
o → ue: almorzar, contar, costar, dormir, encontrar, morir, mostrar, poder, recordar, volver
e → i: competir, pedir, repetir, servir, seguir, vestir
u → ue: jugar
