- incise and drain and infection or extraction to remove source of infection
if systemic involvement
PEN V 250MG 2 TABLETS 4X DAY FOR 5 DAYS
METRONIDAZOLE 400MG 1 TABLET 3X DAY FOR 5 DAYS
AMOXICILLIN 500MG 1 TABLET 3X DAY FOR 5 DAYS
Dose of Pen V in bacterial infections
Pen V = 250mg tablets, 2 tablets 4x day for 5 days
Please send 40 tablets
Dose of Amoxicillin in bacterial infections
Amoxicillin = 500mg capsules, 1 tablet 3x day for 5 days
please send 15 tablets
Dose of metronidazole in bacterial infections
Metronidazole = 400mg tablets, 1 tablet 3x day for 5 days
Please send 15 tablets
If patient allergic to penicillin what can we prescribe?
Metronidazole
When is metronidazole contraindicated?
Alcohol (caution prescribing to alcoholics) - due to disulfurm rxn
Pts on warfarin - inc anti-coauglant effect
What is the tx for NUG?
Metronidazole 400mg tablets, 1 tablet 3x day for 3 days
Amoxicillin - 500mg capsule, 1 capsule 3x day for 3 days
What is the tx for primary herpetic gingivostomatitis
in most cases where pt is healthy - self limiting disease - bed rest, fluid intake, analgesia
however if immunocompromised or severe pain
200mg aciclovir, 1 tablet 5x day for 6 days

Aciclovir dose for PHG
200mg tablet, 1 tablet 5x day for 5 days
Please send 25 tablets
Tx for herpes labialis
Tx best in prodromal period
Acicolvir 5% cream 2g, apply every 4 hours 5x day for nextt 5 days
can use for up to 10 days
Tx for varicella zoster virus?
AKA shingles
Aciclovir 800mg 1 tablet 5x day for 7 days

What is the tx for acute pseudomembranous candidiasis, chronic hypoplastic candidiasis and chronic atrophic candidiasis?
Anti-fungal medication
MICONAZOLE GEL 20MG/G, 80G TUBE, pea sized amount on to lesion, denture fitting surface after food 4x day
FLUCONAZOLE - 50MG FLUCONAZOLE CAPSYLES, 1 CAPSULE A DAY FOR 7 DAYS
NYSTATIN - ORAL RINSE, 100,000UNITS/ML, 30ML. 1ML TO BE TAKEN AFTER FOOD 4X DAY RETAIN FOR 5 MINS THEN SWALLOW
Dose of miconazole gel
Miconazole gel 20mg/g, 80g tube
Apply pea sized amount to lesion or denture fitting surface 4x day after food
Dose of fluconazole capsules
50mg capsule, 1 capsule a day for 7 days
Dose of nystating
Nystatin oral rinse, 100,000units/ml, 30ml, 1m 4x day after food retain for 5 mins then swallow for 7 days
What is the tx for angular chelitis?
Miconazole 2% cream, 20g tube
apply to angles of mouth 2x day for 10 days after lesions resolve
Sodium fusidate ointment - 2% sodium fusidate, 15g, apply 4x day
What is the dose of miconazole cream for angular chelitis?
2% cream, 20g, apply pea size to angles of mouth 2 x day for 10 days after lesions resolve
What dose of sodium fusidate ointment for angular chelitis?
2% sodium fusidate, 15g tube
apply to lesions 4x day
What is the management for oral ulceration?
- CHX 0.2% 10ml 2x day
- Salt water rinses
- 0.15% diflamm MW - for inflammation and analgesia - 15ml every 1-3 hours
- Lidocaine spray 10% onto ulcer
- Benzydamine MW 0.15% - every 1hr 30, spray 0.15% - 4 sprays every 1hr 30
- Betametasone MW - 500micrograms, 100 tablets, dissolve one in 10mil water, 4x day and spit out
- Beclamatesone Inhaler, 500mcg, 4x day, no rinsing after use
- in severe cases/debilitating - can refer to OM for steroids
-Prednisolone - high dose, short duration
- Immunosuppresants - mycophenolate, aziothioprine
Dose of CHX
0.2%, 10ml, 1 min, 2x day
Dose of diflamm
0.15% MW, 15ml, every 2-3 hours
- anti-inflammatory, analgesic
Dose of lidocaine spray
10%, onto ulcer directly
Dose of benzydamine MW
0.15%, every 1hr 30
Dose of benzydamine Spray
0.15%, 4 spray every 1hr 30
