Presbyopia Flashcards
What are the two main principles of presbylasik?
Central presbylasik i.e. centre near e.g. Surpacor and presbymax
Peripheral presbylasik - increases negative asphericity therefore increased depth of focus, combined with some element of monovision e.g. presbyond, Nidek PAC
What are the issues with presbylasik?
Adaptation Loss of distance v/a Loss of contrast Glare More sensitive to dry eye fluctuations
How does the flexivue corneal inlay work?
Central clear portion with peripheral near refractive zone. Peripheral zone gives up to 3.5 Add
What are the advantages of a corneal inlay?
Rapid return to function
Reversible
Is conductive keratoplasty binocular or monocular treatment?
Monocular
How does CK work?
Induces centrally steepening
What are the risks of CK?
FB sensation Regression - very common Focal necrosis Induced astigmatism Corneal perforation
What are the advantages of accommodating implants?
Less risk of haloes and glare as monofocal
Can be used with other co-morbidities
What are the disadvantages of accommodating implants?
They are less predictable/reliable for near vision.
How does the symfony lens work?
Increased spherical aberration to increase depth of focus
