At day break, the citizens saw that the soldiers were standing around the city. Throughout the year, those people lived without water out of the river, and ate bread instead of the best food. After a long time, a certain messenger arrived from another city, through the fields, on account of the siege.
And so, the king came out of his house into the garden in the village, towards him. meanwhile, on account of the battle, the people came down from the mountain and prayed against the wall of the temple, according to custom, with their children.
After this, the messenger, from the Athenian leaders who numbered around 10 men, in the presence of the king told everything concerning the city except one, which happened before the war.
And so that man, in addition, advised the citizens that it was necessary to go towards the shore, with the help of the gods, because nothing was beyond hope. Therefore, just before nightfall, all those who were subject to the king, were lead by the general towards the friendly soldiers along the road.
