What are the important notes to maintain Asepsis
- Clean trolley prior
- Opens packages away from sterile field
- Maintains asepsis when opening packages and adding to aseptic field; adds dressings away from 5cm border, ensures field does not
become contaminated
Opening the wound dressing
- Arrange contents on the sterile field: separate key parts and position away from 5cm border
- Use yellow forceps to take out the equipment

Explain working and field aseptic forceps
“There are two types of forceps, working forceps, which are used when working directly at the ‘key site’, which is the wound itself.
Then, we have field forceps, which are used to transfer ‘key parts’ from the general aseptic field.”
Removing the old dressing

Preparing the wet dressing
- Antiseptic Hand hygiene (30-60seconds) before touching the working (green) forceps.
- Prepare saline balls (3 wet and 2 dry)
Extending the sterile field
- Use sterile forceps to position sterile drape to extend field
- You can take out green forceps as long as cleaning has not started
