Preparing Soluble Salts Flashcards
What is a salt
A salt is a compound that is formed when the hydrogen atom in an acid is replaced by a metal
Method 1
Adding acid to a solid metal, insoluble base or insoluble carbonate
Method 2
Reacting dilute acid and soluble baseb
Make copper sulfate step 1
Heat the acid until warm
Add the solid
Stir until stops disappearing
Method 1 step 2
Filter the mixture to remove excess base and transfer to an evaporating basin
Step 3 method 1
Evaporate water using heat
Step 4 method 1
Allow crystals to form
Method 2 reacting an acid with a soluble base
Add alkali and indicator to a conical flask using a pipette
Add acid to curette noting the starting volume
Method b step 2
Add acid to alkali slowly until indicator changes colour
Calculate the volume of acid required
Repeat these steps without an indicator
Method 2 step 3
Evaporate water using heat
