Preparing data for analysis Flashcards
3 questions to ask before analysing:
Why you are collecting the data?
What data you need to collect?
How you are going to use this data to answer those questions?
Why are you collecting data?
Answering questions to satisfy some information need
What data do you need?
Sampling
How are you going to analyse the data?
Level of measurement and statistics
3 levels of measurement
scale, ordinal, nominal
Nominal data
represents frequencies within categories without any quantitative data and no ranking
Ordinal data
represents categories with some ranking but the differences are not really known
Scale data
is ordered and continuous with distance comparison (interval or ratio)
Example of nominal data
male/female, marital status
Example of ordinal data
BMI, income level, satisfaction rating
Example of scale data
age, weight, speed, temperature
