What are the available anti sialogogues?
Atropine, scopalamine and glycopyrolate
What is the difference in structure in antisialogogues?
Atropine and scopaliamin are tertiary amines and cross the BBB
Gycopyrrolate has quaternary structure (synthetic) and does not cross BBB
Which is the most potent anti sialoguogu?
Scopalamine, but it is also most sedative. (3x as potent as atropine)
What is dose of glyco IM?
0.2 mg. More potent antisialogogue effect than IV. .0.2X more potent than atropine
wht is onset and duration of atropine and glyco?
Atropine 1-2 min
glyco 2-3
both last 30-60 min
How are anticholinergics cleared?
All cleared by kidneys. Renal failure is not a contraindication. glyco has fastest clearance
What procedures benefit from anti sialogogue?
FFOB, endoscopy, ENT cases
What anti sialogogue should be admistered in POHA prior to FFOB?
Glyco-IM-0.2-0.4
