What are the risk factors for premature labour? Give me 8

A

‘Too much inside’ - Multiple pregnancy, polyhydramnios
‘Defenders escape’ - Pre-eclampsia, IUGR
‘Weak wall’ - fibroids
‘Enemy’ - UTI, STI
‘Problem with mum’ - extremes of age, maternal health problems i.e diabetes, renal disease

A

Sustained crampy abdo pain (could be Braxton-Hicks)

Investigations for preterm labour and what does it mean?

A
  1. Fetal fibronectin testing (determines chance of you going into labour before 34 weeks, meant for women after 30 weeks –> predicts chance of labour in 48 hours
  2. Speculum to rule out PPROM
  3. Fetal monitoring
