The poem is split into 3 sections
1st: Carefree, light tone
2nd: Tone becomes darker and fearful when the mountain appears
3rd: Reflecting upon how the experience has changed him
Form: Genre
Blank verse to make it sound serious and important, regular rhythm to make it sound like natural speech
LA: Description of the mountain
“A huge peak, black and huge”
LA: Violent imagery
“I struck and struck again”

“With trembling oars”
LA: Narrator is left feeling alone and unsettled
“There hung a darkness, call it solitude / Or blank desertion”
