PRELIMS:DIVISIONS OF TOOTH SURFACE Flashcards
The imaginary line that divides the dental arch into into right and left
MIDLINE
The tooth surface where a tooth has 2 proximal surfaces, one that is oriented towards the midline of the dental arch and another that is oriented away from the midline of the arch
PROXIMAL TOOTH SURFACE
Types of proximal tooth surface
~MESIAL SURFACE
~DISTAL SURFACE
The proximal surface closest to the midline of the arch
MESIAL SURFACE
The proximal surface oriented away from the midline of the arch
DISTAL SURFACE
The surface of a tooth that “faces” towards the lip or cheeks
FACIAL SURFACE
The surface of an anterior tooth that faces towards the lip
LABIAL SURFACE
The surface of a posterior tooth that faces towards the cheek
BUCCAL SURFACE
The surface of a tooth facing toward the tongue
LINGUAL SURFACE
The surface towards the cutting edge of an anterior tooth
INCISAL SURFACE
The surface towards the chewing surface of a posterior tooth
OCCLUSAL SURFACE
An imaginary line that goes through the crown and root around which the substance of a tooth is most symmetrically distributed
LONG AXIS
The surface of tooth parallel to its long axis
AXIAL SURFACE
