Piaget: learn about world through experience. 6 sensorimotor substages (reflex schemas, primary circular reactions, secondary circular reactions, coordination of snesory circular reactions, teritary circular reactions, symbolic representation, spanning from 0-24 months)

Thelen: proved Piaget’s theory to be wrong, she was able to prove 3 month year olds have the cognitive ability of the object concept. She believed that knowledge of hidden objects emerges gradually from developmental changes in reaching, motor control, and interaction with objects.
