- Angulation
- Soft tissues/ body structures
- Mediastinum
- Diaphragm
- Lungfields
Penetration
- Should see __ through the heart
- Barely see the __ through he heart
- Should see nearly to the edges of the lungs
Gastric bubbles- air
Ribs
spine
pulmonary vessels
_____ Film
(high Kvp & dark image )
-lung fields darker than normal; may obscure subtle pathologies
- see spine well beyond the diaphragm
- Inadequate lung detail
Overpenetrated
_____ Film
(low kVP & bright image)
- hemidiaphragms are obscured (not visible)
- Pulmonary markings more prominent than they actually are
(common artifacts: noise, quantum mottle)
Underpenetrated
.
- Should be able to count 9-10 posterior ribs
- Heart shadow should not be hidden by the diaphragm
Inspiration
Poor inspiration can crowd the lung markings producing: “ ____disease*
pseudo-airspace
- web appearance in the image)
Extensive Pulmonary Tuberculosis
- cotton ball appearance in the image
Thermal lung cancer
- Medial ends of the bilateral clavicle are equidistant from the midline or vertebral bodies
- Marking: jugular notch
Rotation
- ( positioned dedicated to apices )
- Wing out clavicle
APICO LORDOTIC
Soft Tissue and Bony Structure
Check for:SDFMCL ( 6)
-
symmetry
- deformities
-fracture (disruptions: bones)
-masses
- calcification
- lytic lesions (brittle bone: crystalize black appearance)
- Mediastinum
Check for:
- __ (heart exert too much effort: blockage, hypertensive)
- Mediastinal & iteral contours for increase densities and deformities
Cardiomegaly
11.
- Check sharpness of borders
- Right is normally higher than the left
- Check for free air, gastric bubble, pleural effusions (presence of fluid in the lungs)
Diaphragms
- free air (peritoneal cavity)
Pneumoperitoneum
- To help you determine abnormalities & their location
- Uses silhouettes/ other thoracic structures
- Use fissures
Lung fields
