What are learned characteristics of culture?
Not biologically inherited; children learn from parents/guardians; passed from generation
How are acceptable behaviors determined
Culture determines what behaviors are deemed acceptable
How are cultural traits subject to change?
New cultural traits are added, others are removed if deemed unhelpful; some cultures change slowly and some change fast
Why can culture not remain in isolation?
Because ethnic groups begin to co-exist, causing isolated cultures to be broken
Prejudice
Injury or damage resulting from some judgement or action of another based on race, religion, individual or group.
Types of prejudice
Personal; group
Intolerance
Likely result from careful consideration and full understanding of the situation; based on ignorance or limited perception
Stereotypes
Generalizations about a specific group
What are hate crimes?
Committed criminal offense which is motivated by an offenders bias against race, religion, ethnicity, gender, etc.
How should police respond to a hate crime?
Secure the scene; stabilize victims; preserve and collect evidence; conduct pre-lim investigation; arrest if probable cause exists

Motivation is to be Free; spontaneous; resilient; learn best by doing; enjoy action and competition
