Individual prejudice
People attach a certain feeling or emotion to a certain group/groups
Scapegoat Hypothesis
When people sometimes express their frustrations for other targets against substitute targets

When prejudice is found to be linked to your childhood and the beliefs of the people who raised you

Someone only sees what they EXPECT to see
Causes of prejudice
- Learned in response to the socialization patterns you may see in a racist community

Prejudice is activated when feels threatened; NO ONE WANTS TO GIVE UP PRIVILEGES
Gunnar Myrdal theory
Prejudice remains perpetuated through a self fulfilling prophecy
Social Distance
The degree of intimacy which one would allow another group in their circle
Modern racism
Racism has not declined but evolved; a lot of it is not low key
Equal status contact hypothesis
Equal status, common goal, no competition, and active endorsement from authority figures tends to reduce prejudice
Hate crimes
Acts or attacking of intimidation performed a particular group membership formed on the basis of hate for another; primarily racial
