Definition of prehistory
Prehistory is he time before written records
What kind of lifestyle did prehistoric people live?
They were nomadic and hunter-gatherers
What did prehistoric people die from?
pregnancy and childbirth, infection, disease, famine and food shortages
what is trephining?
Trephining is the main example of surgery in prehistoric times. it involved drilling a hole in a persons head to get rid of evil spirits. We can tell that many survived the procedure as there are skulls with evidence of bone growing back.
What were healers called?
Medicine men, they were believed to have been able to deal with spirits.
What was the role of women?
women were in charge of everyday health and knew about herbs as treatments. Their medical knowledge consisted of simple remedies created from observation and common sense
beliefs and treatments
prehistoric people believed that everybody had their own spirit and if you were ill your spirit had either left the body or an evil spirit had entered it.
The prehistoric man would wear amulets to ward off evil spirits
