Ectopic Pregnancy l
mostly Fallopian tubes,
s/sx - dark color bleeding, Adnexal mass, shoulder pain,
evidence of nausea/vomiting/diarrhea can indicate rupture mass.
Pregnancy induced hypertension
SBP greater than 140, diastolic blood pressure greater than 90 greater than 20 weeks pregnancy.
signs and symptoms: Edema, weight gain
treatment - rest
Preeclampsia
Hypertension and proteinuria
s/sx HTN, proteinuria, generalized edema, severe headache, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain
treatment- hospital, bed rest- left lateral, mag sulphate
assessment- daily kick counts
Eclampsia
elevated blood pressure greater than 160/100 , severe headache, visual disturbance, seizures
Treatment: magnesium sulphate
HELLP Syndrome
elevated liver enzymes, decreased platelets, severe preeclampsia
s/sx Jandice, mid-epigastric and RLQ pain, v/vomiting, malaise
treatment Symptomatic care
Placenta previa
Placenta grows around the cervix, covers the fetus.
s/sx - painless bleeding greater than 20 weeks
Risks - multiple gestation, cocaine use, smoking, fetal malpresentation.
Abrupto Plancentae
2nd or 3rd trimester
Partial or total detachment of the placenta
s/sx severe Abdominal pain and vagina bleeding, back pain
check ultrasound - hospital– delivery
Premature labor
True labor after 20 weeks gestation
s/sx contractions, low back pain
risks - multiple gestation, bacteria, bacterial vaginosis, chlamydia, Trichomoniasis, substance abuse
Fetal heart tones
first heard 10 -20 weeks of pregnancy
High risk pregnancy
RH sensitization
thrombocytopenia
premature rupture of membrane
multiple gestations
glucose tolerance test
done by 28 weeks gestation
1st trimester tests
chromosomal abnormalities-Trisomy 21 and 18
2nd trimester tests
Amniocentesis to check for down syndrome
Glucose Tolerance test to assess for diabetics
3rd Trimester Tests
RH negative test
Hgb, Hct
Goodell Sign
