where is the fetus “kept”?
A
The fetus is protected by the uterus and theamniotic fluid, a liquid contained in a bag called theamnion.

what is the placenta?
A
Theplacentais an organ responsible for providing oxygen and nutrients, and removing waste substances.
It grows into the wall of the uterus and is joined to the fetus by theumbilical cord.

how long does it take for the baby to be born?
A
36 to 40 weeks

how is the baby pushed out?
A
The cervix relaxes and muscles in the wall of the uterus contract. Waves of
muscle contraction push the baby out of the mother’s body through the vagina.
