progesterone

19
Q

why are twins born a couple of weeks earlier than single pregnancies?

A

becuase skeletal muscle when stretched has a tendency to contract - therefore two babies stretches this muscle much quicker and twins are born earlier

20
Q

why does a woman go into labor when they do?

A

due to a positive feedback mechanism

as contractions occur, cervix is stretched which excites the fundus, which contracts the fundus - then this fundus contraction forces babies head down further- stretching cervix even more… cycle continues - each contracton must be stronger than the next one which is why they ask you to track contractions
