How does the respiratory system change with pregnancy?
frequently dyspnea, increased tidal volume and increased minute ventilation volume, respiratory alkalosis is normal state
How does the urinary system change with pregnancy?
increased GFR, increased Cr clearance, decreased serum creatinine. Ureters dilate - dilation greater on right. Decreased bladder tone with increased urinary frequency
What is epulis gravidarum?
benign tumor of ginivosa during pregnancy
What are common GI symptoms during pregnancy?
heartburn, constipation, cholestasis leading to cholecystitis, gallstones etc.
How do prolactin and oxytocin levels change throughout pregnancy?
prolactin - milk production, oxytocin responsible for milk letdown
How does TSH change during pregnancy?
doesn’t change; Thyroxine binding globulin levels increase, total thyroxine levels increase; free remains the same
How do you calculate expected due date?
LMP + 1 year + 7 days - 3 months
How do HCG levels change with pregnancy?
double every 2 days for first 10 weeks
