What is fertilisation?
The fusion of the egg cell and sperm nucleus

What is implantation?
When the embryo attaches to the thick uterus lining to receive nourishment after reaching the uterus

What is the structure of the placenta in the nutrition of the developing embryo?
It has a large surface area between it and the uterus wall and a rich supply of maternal blood vessels
What does the placenta do?
It allows substances to diffuse from the mother’s blood to the foetus (e.g. oxygen and glucose)
