Q

What is the dopamine hypothesis for schizophrenia?

A

Overactivity of mesolimbic dopamine system causes +ve symptoms and -ve caused by PFC damage

Q

What is the neurodevelopmental hypothesis for schizophrenia?

A

PFC should modulate stress but if improperly activated during adolescence can cause -ve symptoms.
The deficit in the PFC reduces feedback inhibtion to dopaminergic neurons and causes excess dopamine and +ve symptoms.

Q

What is the glutamate hypothesis for schizophrenia?

A

Similar symptoms to PCP drug which blocks NMDA receptors so maybe same mechanism?
