L- Citrulline
How does it work?
L-citrulline is a naturally occurring amino acid found in food, such as watermelons, and also made in the body. Our bodies change L-citrulline into another amino acid called L-arginine and also to nitric oxide. L-citrulline might help increase the supply of ingredients the body needs to making certain proteins. It might also help open up veins and arteries to improve blood flow and reduce blood pressure.
L-Ornithine
L-Ornithine is the most potent amino acid ever studied for stimulating the production and release of Human Growth Hormone from the pituitary gland. HGH is a powerful rejuvenator - its use has the potential to reverse aging by up to 10 to 20 years. Studies of L-Ornithine have shown the ability to regenerate the thymus gland, liver, and heart tissue, enhance muscle growth, and increase immune system function
L-Tartrate
L-tartrate is a salt used as an additive in some health supplements to facilitate absorption of another substance.

L-Carnitine
L-Carnitine plays an important role in energy production by supporting the metabolism of activated fatty acids and helping to remove toxic metabolites from your body. According to “Integrative Medicine,” by counteracting high levels of free fatty acids and by enhancing carbohydrate metabolism, L-carnitine reduces the effects of blood vessel damage caused by the fatty acids. Additionally, l-carnitine can improve your body’s energy utilization in the muscles.
L-carnitine also increases fat oxidation in your body while maintaining the integrity of your muscles. Therefore, supplementation with L-carnitine can improve muscle response. According to “Guyton and Hall Textbook of Medical Physiology,” L-carnitine reduces the amount of exercise-induced muscle tissue damage, and has a favorable effect on the recovery phase of exercise.
Beta Alanine
Where it comes from: Beta alanine is a naturally occurring non-essential amino acid that is converted to other chemicals that can then affect muscles. “It’s needed for the production of carnosine,” explains Roberta Anding RD, American Dietetic Association spokesperson and sports dietitian for the Houston Texans. “Carnosine is needed by muscle cells to act as a buffer to control intracellular Ph.” Too much acid accumulation by muscles is thought to contribute to fatigue.
What it’ll do for you: “Beta alanine is a relative newcomer to the sports scene,” says Anding. Research suggests that, during high intensity weight training or sprint work, beta alanine can reduce the symptoms of fatigue. Additionally, supplementation with beta alanine may improve the muscular endurance of older adults, as carnosine declines with age.
L-Tyrosine
Tyrosine is one of the amino acids, which are the building blocks of protein. The body makes tyrosine from another amino acid called phenylalanine. Tyrosine can also be found in dairy products, meats, fish, eggs, nuts, beans, oats, and wheat.
Tyrosine is used in protein supplements to treat an inherited disorder called phenylketonuria (PKU). People who have this problem can’t process phenylalanine properly, so as a result they can’t make tyrosine. To meet their bodies’ needs, supplemental tyrosine is given.
People take tyrosine for depression, attention deficit disorder (ADD), attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), the inability to stay awake (narcolepsy), and improving alertness following sleep deprivation. It is also used for stress, premenstrual syndrome (PMS), Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), alcohol and cocaine withdrawal, heart disease and stroke, ED (erectile dysfunction), loss of interest in sex, schizophrenia, and as a suntan agent and appetite suppressant.
Some people also apply tyrosine to the skin to reduce age-related wrinkles.
How does it work?
The body uses tyrosine to make chemical messengers that are involved in conditions involving the brain such as mental alertness.
DHEA
DHEA is a hormone that is naturally made by the human body. It can be made in the laboratory from chemicals found in wild yam and soy. However, the human body cannot make DHEA from these chemicals, so simply eating wild yam or soy will not increase DHEA levels. Don’t be misled by wild yam and soy products labeled as “natural DHEA.”
DHEA is used for slowing or reversing aging, improving thinking skills in older people, and slowing the progress of Alzheimer’s disease.
Athletes and other people use DHEA to increase muscle mass, strength, and energy. But DHEA use is banned by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
DHEA is also used by men for erectile dysfunction (ED), and by healthy women and women who have low levels of certain hormones to improve well-being and sexuality.
Some people try DHEA to treat systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), weak bones (osteoporosis), multiple sclerosis (MS), low levels of steroid hormones (Addison’s disease), depression, schizophrenia, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), and to slow the progression of Parkinson’s disease. It is also used for preventing heart disease, breast cancer, diabetes, and metabolic syndrome.
DHEA is used for weight loss, for decreasing the symptoms of menopause, and for boosting the immune system.
People with HIV sometimes use DHEA to ease depression and fatigue.
Women who have passed menopause sometimes use DHEA inside the vagina for strengthening the walls of the vagina and for increasing bone mineral density.
Like many dietary supplements, DHEA has some quality control problems. Some products labeled to contain DHEA have been found to contain no DHEA at all, while others contained more than the labeled amount.
DHEA is being investigated and may eventually be approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as a prescription drug for treating systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and improving bone mineral density in women with lupus who are taking steroid drugs for treatment. The FDA is still studying the pharmaceutical company’s application for approval.
How does it work?
DHEA is a “parent hormone” produced by the adrenal glands near the kidneys and in the liver. In men, DHEA is also secreted by the testes. It is changed in the body to a hormone called androstenedione. Androstenedione is then changed into the major male and female hormones.
DHEA levels seem to go down as people get older. DHEA levels also seem to be lower in people with certain conditions like depression. Some researchers think that replacing DHEA with supplements might prevent some diseases and conditions.
