Pre Vs Post Ganglion Flashcards
ganglion in sympathetic
Short Pre ganglion, long post ganglion
Ganglion in parasympathetic
Long pre ganglion, short post ganglion
Divisions of the Autonomic Nervous System
Sympathetic: T1-L2
Parasympathetic: III, VII, IX, X and S2-S4
Major Functions of Automic Nervous System
Digestion, Pupillary size, HR, BP, Salivalary, Adrenal Gland, Urination/Defecation
Targets of Autonomic Nervous System
Cardiac muscles, Skeletal muscles, Variety of Glands
Sympathetic
Fight or Flight
Parasympathetic
Rest and Digest
Pre-Ganglionic Neuron
Located in the spinal cord or brainstem then synapse on postganglionic cell
Post-Ganglionic Neuron
Located in the various peripheral ganglia which send projections to smooth, cardiac or glands
White Matter
Only found at T1-L2
Grey Matter
Found at all levels
Preganglionic Neuron (Sympathetic)
Lateral Horn of Spinal Cord –> intermediolateral column of spinal cord only between T1-L2
Postganglionic Neuron (Sympathetic)
Located in 1 of the Ganglia
1.) Paraverterbral Chain
2.) Prevertebral Ganglia (Celliac, Sup. Messantaric, Infr Messantaric)
Pathway (Sympathetic)
1.) Same Segmental Level
2.) Different Segmental Level
3.) Prevertebral Ganglia
4.) Adrenal Gland
Preganglionic Neuron (Parasympathetic)
Edinger Westphal Nucleus - Cillilary Ganglion
Sup. Salivatory Nucleus - Submandibular/Pterygopalatine
Info. Salvatory Nucleus - Otic Ganglion
