Approach
All external lights and reflective equipment are clean and none are broken or missing. No puddles under truck
Light colors
Clearance: Red on rear, amber elsewhere
Headlights: Clear, high and low beams
Taillights: Amber
Engine compartment hoses
No leaks on underside of engine or transmission. Must be in good condition.
Coolant
Adequate level of fluid(above fill line)
Engine compartment belts
Belts must have between 1/2-3/4 inch play. No cracks, frays, loose fibers or signs of wear. Alternator wires must be securely fastened. (Check water pump and alternator belt-air compressor and power steering are gear driven).
All components are supposed to be
Operating properly, not damaged or leaking, and mounted securely
Steering box
Securely mounted and not leaking
No missing nuts and/or bolts
Check for power steering fluid leaks or damage to power steering hoses
Steering linkage
Connecting links arms and rods are not worn or cracked.
Check that joints and sockets are not worn or loose and no missing nuts, bolts, or cotter keys
Suspension springs air and torque
No missing, shifted, cracked or broken leaf springs. No damage and all components are mounted securely. No damage or leaks in the air ride suspension.
Slack adjuster and push rods
No broken, loose, or missing parts. For manual slack adjusters, brake pushrod should not move more than an inch when pulled by hand.
Brake chambers
No leaks, cracks, or dents, mounted securely. No loose or missing clamps.
Brake hoses/lines
No cracks, wear, or leaks on the hoses, lines, and couplings.
Drum brake
No cracks, dents, holes. No missing or loose bolts. No dirt, oil, or grease. If visible, linings shouldn’t be dangerously thin.
Linings
Visible amount of brake lining is showing.
Do all brake components
