What to look for with metal and plastic
Not bent broken or cracked
Securely mounted
Anything that has fluid,
No visible leaks
Anything with air…
No audible leaks
When approaching the vehicles, examine the three L’s
Lights
Leans
Leaks
When inspecting the lights, check for
Condition: not bent, not broken, securely mounted
They are also clean
They are the proper color
Under the hood, start from
The passenger side, end on the drivers side
When checking the coolant overflow reservoir
Condition: not bent, broken, not cracked and is securely mounted
Check there are no leaks
The overflow should be at about half
When checking the alternator
Not bent not broken not cracked, securely mounted
It is belt driven
Test the belt for 3/4 inch of play
The belt has no abrasions, bulges or cuts and it’s securely mounted
Large hose from the bottom of the radiator leads to
The water pump
When inspecting the water pump, make sure
Not bent, broken , cracked, securely mounted
No visible leaks
Water pump is belt driven(maybe)
Checking a general hose
No abrasions, no cuts, bulges
No visible leaks
Securely mounted
Describe procedure for checking oil
I’d pull it out , wipe it off, insert it back in, pull out to check it the oil is at an operating level
At or below full, but above add
Engine must be cooled for accurate reading
The lid is not bent broken cracked and is securely mounted
Not leaks running down the hose which is also not bent broken cracked and securely mounted
Checking the power steering reservoir
Not bent broken cracked and is securely mounted
No visible leaks
Is it at the operating range
Inspecting the power steering hose
No abrasions no bulges or cuts
No visible leaks
Securely mounted
When checking the air compressor
Not bent broken cracked , is securely mounted
I hear no audible leaks
It is gear driven
Steering shaft condition
Not bent broken cracked
Is securely mounted into the
Turn for 10degrees of play
Steering box condition
Not bent broken cracked and is securely mounted
No visible leaks
From the steering box extends the pitmen arm, condition?
Not bent broken cracked and is securely mounted by the castle nuts and cotter keys
Drag link condition
Not bent broken cracked and is securely mounted by the castle nuts and cotter keys
Inspecting the brake line
No abrasions bulges or cuts, no audible leaks
Securely mounted
A lean in the truck might indicate
Damage to the suspension
Upper steering arm
Lower steering arm
Not bent broken or cracked
Securely mounted
Steering items include
Steering shaft
Steering box
Drag link
Upper and lower steering arms
Front Spring mounts
Back spring mounts
Not bent broken or cracked and is securely mounted
