Pre-Takeoff Brief (engine failure on takeoff)

Question 1

In the event of an engine failure or abnormality prior to rotation:

Answer 1

Throttle - immediately closed

Brake - as required

Stop straight ahead

Question 2

If not enough runway remains to stop:

Answer 2

Mixture - idle cutoff

Fuel selector - rotate to off

Magnetos - off

Battery master - off

Avoid obstacles

Question 3

Engine failure after rotation with sufficient runway remaining for a complete stop:

Answer 3

Throttle - immediately closed

Land straight ahead

Brake - as required

Question 4

Engine failure after rotation with no runway remaining:

Answer 4

Airspeed - pitch for best glide (76 KIAS)

Mixture - idle cutoff

Fuel selector - rotate off

Magnetos - off

Battery master - off

Flaps - adjust

Land at lowest possible airspeed, straight ahead, and avoid obstacles
