Believed everything is flux and thought fire was the essence of the universe. “Upon those who step into the same rivers, different and ever different waters flow down.” One never steps in the same river twice.

Believed the world was made of atoms, also known as the “laughing philosopher”.
Pivotal age from 7th to the 3rd centuries BCE when widely dispersed thinkers from China to the Middle East became more intellectually reflective and focused on the meaning of life.
Axial Period
Believed everything in cosmos was based on water; “Know thyself” and “Nothing is excess” are attributed to him but this is debated.
Thales of Miletus
Believed all things found in the world are simply a manifestation of one eternal reality.
Parmenides
Thought constant motion created the world and drew a map of the known world and thought evolution explained human and all life’s development.
Anaximander
Thought air was the essence, both the divine which gives life to the universe and that which characterises the soul.
