Definition of Target Analysis
The examination of the information on a given target with the object of determining what the destructive effects might be.
The evaluation is made in terms of available assets and is separate and distinct from the operational plan. The target analysis is made within the framework of the statement of requirements.
Four factors of TA
Vulnerable to attack
Subsequent downtime
Destructive effects
Available assets
Reasons for TA
Obtain the greatest effect possible within the limitations of the operational environment
Make the most efficient use of available assets and material
Provide operational planners with options in terms of target selection and control of results
Continue the reduction of hazards to the team on the ground
Overt
Action and sponsor are not disguised
Covert
Sponsor is hidden but action is not
Clandestine
