statement mean to the territories of Kansas and Nebraska?

A

When a territory asked for statehood, the people of a territory could vote on whether
they wanted to be free state or a slave state. This nullified (invalidated or abolished)
Missouri Compromise. States were previously territories.

Kansas was denied statehood to be a slave state because it was above the 36° 20’
parallel line but soon antislavery people took over Kansas and they asked for statehood
and Kansas was admitted as a free state as was Nebraska
