Pre-Algebra Fundamentals Flashcards
What is a REAL number?
A number that can be plotted on a number line
You just need to know that real numbers are not imaginary.
What is an INTEGER?
A whole number
Includes negative numbers and zero. Fractions and decimals are not inte
What is an UNDEFINED fraction?
A fraction with ZERO in the denominator
For example, 6/0 and x/0 are undefined
See asymptotes for a specific use
What are RATIONAL numbers?
Numbers that can be expressed as ratios
Includes integers, fractions and SOME decimals
Examples: 4, 1/2 and 2.5. 2.5 is rational because it’s the same as 5/2
What are IRRATIONAL numbers?
Numbers that aren’t rational
The only examples tested are √2, √3 and π
See rational numbers

Absolute Value
Content within absolute value signs should be converted
to positive (if positive, stays positive; if negative, changes
to positive). Do calculating BEFORE converting.
Add example question image
Prime Number
A number divisible by only itself and 1
The only even prime number is 2. Other examples are 3, 7, and 23.
Least Common Multiple
The smallest number evenly divisible by 2 numbers
Relevant to common denominators. Example, LCM of 12 and 15 is 60.
Show question with flashing light
Remainder
The leftover amount after division, if it’s not an even division.
Example repeating decimal question
