Pre-Algebra. Ch 9 Terms Flashcards
Ordered Pair
Two Numbers written in order (4,5). Can be used to show position on graph with (x,y) values. So x (horizontal = 4,) and y (vertical = 5).
Origin
The starting point. Where x and y axis cross. On a graph it is typical (0,0)
x-coordinate
The horizontal value. In a (x,y) coordinate, x is always first.
y-coordinate
The vertical value. In a (x,y) coordinate, y is always second.
Quadrant
Any of the four areas when you divide a graph with an (x,y) plane at 0,0
Transformation
Changing a shape using turn, flip, or resize
Reflection
Image or Shape as it would be seen in a mirror
Translation
Sliding a shape moving location, but not shape
Rotation
A central point that is fixed everything else moves in circle around a central point
Function
Relationship where each input has a single output….expressed as f(x)
Domain
All the inputs that can into a function f(x)
Range
All the outputs that come out of a function….The combination of Domains and Ranges can be graphed.
Slope
Measures steepness of a line
Y-intercept
Where a straight line crosses the y-axis of a graph
