a song of praise and acclamation that is sung during a mass to meditate on a scriptural reading
Litany
A series of lines spoken in prayer
A series of petitions
Describes a long list of complaints or grievances
Ex. “lord hear our prayer”, “pray for us”
General Intercessions
Universal prayers or petitions
Meant for a group of people , ex. The grieving, the world, the suffering.
Stations of the Cross
Series of 14 events leading up to the crucifixion and death of Christ.
Rosary
Reciting prayers while counting on a string of beads (the rosary)
Each bead represents a different prayer (Hail Mary, Our Father, Glory Be, Apostles Creed)
The Lord’s prayer
The Lord’s prayer is also known as Our Father. We believe we are all children of God through faith, and because of this, God has sent the spirit of his son into our hearts.
What does prayer require
- Time
- Discipline
- To be done daily
- Focused on God, not on ourselves
Mortal Sin
Sin that is done consciously or on purpose, usually a more major sin
You must go to reconciliation after
Ex. Abortion, murder, arson, stealing
Venial Sin
Sin that is committed without full awareness that it is a sin, or sins that aren’t as serious as mortal ones. Ex. gossiping, envy, white lies
