Describe world population growth since 1000 CE.
There was a steady increase in world population between the year 1000 and the 1800s. In the year 1000 the population was 275 million. By the year 1800 the world population was 919 million. The rate of growth increased sharply from the 1800s, reaching more than 6 billion by the year 2000. The highest rates of world population growth occurred during the 1950s and 1960s, peaking at 2.2 per cent in 1963. Today, population growth is approximately 1.2 per cent per year and it is expected to decrease.
