Practice SAC Flashcards
Q1A - Identify and explain a business objective of a Business.
Objectives are what a business wants to achieve.
Examples of Objectives:
- Make a profit
- Increase market share
- Improve efficiency / effectiveness
- Fulfil market or social need
Q1B - Many businesses have moved staff to remote work to meet social distancing rules.
Technological development has impacted business’s working practices. Explain two examples of technological
literacy that may be reasonably expected of a staff member working remotely.
If a staff member is working remotely, they will be expected to have technological literacy to be able to use the software systems of the organisation so that they can complete their work and also to be able to use programs like zoom so that they can have a meeting with their other colleagues.
Q2A - Explain what a job analysis is, and how it relates to determining job descriptions and job specifications
A job analysis is the study of an employee’s job in order to determine the duties performed, the time involved with each of those duties, the responsibilities involved, and the equipment required. The job analysis provides the information for the job description which is a written statement describing the employee’s duties, and tasks and responsibilities associated with the job. The job analysis will also provide the information for the job specification a list of the key qualifications needed to perform a particular job in terms of education, skills, knowledge, and level of experience and can be used to prepare descriptions to be used to recruit and select staff.
Q2B - The Wild Emporium has determined that it needs a Web Sales Consultant and has created a job advertisement for this position. Two possible recruitment methods that Wild Emporium can use to fill this position are using their internal intranet and external online recruitment sites such as SEEK. Select one of these methods and discuss its suitability for Wild Emporium to use to select the new staff member. (
Internal recruiting is when the business chooses to promote its staff from within the business. An advantage of recruiting from inside is that it reduces the added costs in time and money to advertise the position externally. Another advantage is that it may impact on the loyalty of existing staff as they can see a benefit for staying with the business in terms of promotion and may choose to stay that will improve performance for the business. The costs of recruiting internally include that there is a smaller range of applicants to choose from, as outside applicants may bring new ideas and fresh approaches to tasks and a missed opportunity to obtain fresh ideas and skills from an external applicant.
External recruiting is when the business will seek applicants for business positions from outside of the business. The benefits of recruiting externally include that there is a wider range of applicants to choose from, as outside applicants may bring new ideas and fresh approaches to tasks. Also there is different qualifications or experience from those already within the business which can be specified in the advertising process. This method also allows for rapid growth of the business because it allows for an increase in actual staff numbers. However, a disadvantage of recruiting from outside is that I have added costs in time and money to advertise the position. Another disadvantage is that it may impact on the loyalty of existing staff as they can see no benefit for staying with the business in terms of promotion and may chose to leave that will be an added cost for the business.
Q3 - Wild Emporium will need to provide an employment contract to the successful applicant. Explain one employment condition that may be included in the document, including its significance to both parties.
An employment contract is a document that sets out the right and obligations of both the employer and employee. A condition that may exist in an employee’s contract for Wild Emporium could be the hours that the employee is expected to attend to work. The significance of this to the employer Wild Emporium is that they can not expect the employee to work past these se hours and for the
employee the amount off attendance that are expected to complete at work for the pay yhat they will receive.
Q4 - As an employer, the Wild Emporium is expected to abide by legal obligations such as Occupational Health and Safety and providing Equal Employment Opportunities. Select one of these legal
obligations and explain how it can be met at Wild Emporium.
Equal employment opportunities means that any work positions at Wild Emporium cannot restrict access to an individual based on, age, race, religion, sex, disability, and sexual identification. To meet the requirement of the equal employment opportunities legislation Wild Emporium would need to make sure that when they recruit an employee that they do not include or exclude based on any of the above reasons.
Q5 - Given current restrictions and remote working expectations, propose and justify oneway Wild
Emporium can provide adequate employee induction which is appropriate for the current situation.
Induction is the process of introducing a new employee to the organisation. With remote working it is not possible for an employee to come into Wild Emporium for a fac to face induction program. To induct an employee then Wild Emporium could use a program like zoom to introduce them to other employees and they could create an on-line unit that could provide new staff with key information that they would need to know about the Wild Emporium that they are joining. The advantages of this approach is that they can meet other employees from the section they are joining which can help to create links that will help them to fit in and feel more comfortable and the online program means it is an opportunity for them to know key information which also them to feel more settled as part of the organisation
Q6 - Considering there is no need for on-site attendance from this role, evaluate the benefits and costs to be considered if Wild Emporium should seek to recruit overseas applicants.
If Wild Emporium is to recruit overseas this means that it is seeking to fill a staff position from outsider of Australia. The benefits of recruiting externally include that there is a wider range of applicants to choose from, as outside applicants may bring new ideas and fresh approaches to tasks. The problem with recruiting overseas is the normal day hours may be different to Australian considering that they will be working remotely which may make it difficult for them to work with other employees in the organisation. Another problem is that the technology that links them to Wild Emporium may be
unreliable which may it difficult for them to complete the tasks that are part of their employment contract.
