  1. WHAT: His fair, just, abnormal treatment of of Desdemona. Skews masculine traits in a patriarchal society, contrasted conventions at the time.
    HOW: both use nature imagery in harmony at the beginning.
    WHY: Makes him admirable by letting her have a voice, brave enough to go against the society’s norms and proves his goodness.
  2. WHAT:Military power ,status and respect. Valour controlled manor
    HOW: military language, use of stories/tales. Poetic language, iambic pentametre.
    WHY: less virtues etc.

‘othello is a misguided murderer rather than a. cruel one’ twedya?

A

para 1: measured in his speech/controlled and call deteriorates, adopts Iago’s animalistic language. Reflects the fight ‘keep up your bright swords’ changes at the end. cuckoldry and otherness, his characterisation of a ‘moor’ who isn’t able to understand society he’s in. Tragic downfall: noble general to callous murderer.
para 2: Structure/staging- chances of Cassio and Desdemona motif of hankerchief. chance (patterns of religous imagery and extended methaphor of ‘sword of justice’) ‘men of royal siege;. He is aware of the power his words hold. The structural contrasts between Othello’s behaviour in act 1 when he avoids conflict to his decieve actions to kill his wife. His sililoquy when he enters the bed chamber where he attempts to justify his actions. Othello’s elevated final speech and his turning the ‘sword of justice’ onto himself.
