Q

Q: Identify 2 negative communication behaviours Dr. Bowden introduces. Identify each and explain how they influence the consultation process. (4 marks)

A

A: Neg - At one point (3.18 mins approx.) Dr. Bowden asks a multiple question (is there anything you are worried about or have you had any thoughts about what might be causing your headaches’) This results in initially in Mrs. Starling only answering the ‘thoughts’ component of the question.

Neg - Dr. Bowden did not encourage Mrs Starling to volunteer more information about her worry (had she done so this would have provided Dr. Bowden with a wider context of information and the specifics of her concern). This omission results in Dr. Bowden swiftly moving on to another topic.
