Practicals Flashcards
A positive result to any of the multimodal test would be an indicator of what?
higher cortical lesion
What are the Multimodal sensation tests?
Stereognosis Barognosis Topognosis Graphognosis 2-point discrimination
test performed by placing two object into the patients hands and asking the patient to correctly identify the object.
stereognosis
patient assess the relative weight of similarly sized and shaped objects
Barognosis
Test performed by touching the patient somewhere on the skin and have him or her point to the area touched
Topognosis
The performed by writing a letter or number on the patients chest, back or palm and having them correctly identify it
Graphognosis
Test used to determine what point a patient can determine two different points
2-point discrimination
A patient should be able to identify 2 point discrimination on the fingertips at what distance?
2-4 mm
A patient should be able to identify a 2 point discrimination on the dorsum of the fingers at a distance of?
4-6mm
A patient should be able to determine a 2 point discrimination on the palm of the hand at a distance of?
8-12mm
A patient should be able to determine a 2 point discrimination on the dorsum of the hand at a distance of?
20-30mm
Describe the Romberg test
What is a normal vs abnormal finding?
What are two other tests that you could perform to confirm findings?
patient stand erect looking straight ahead first with eyes open
normal - little or no swaying
abnormal - eyes open and closed - Cerebellar lesion and/or vestibular mechanism deficit
- only eyes close - Dorsal column pathology
hopping on one foot, squatting on one foot
Describe the Hopping on one foot test
What is a normal vs abnormal finding?
What are two other tests that you could perform to confirm your diagnosis?
patient hops on one leg with eyes open and then closed then the patient does it on the other side
normal - patient maintains posture
abnormal - patient falls with eyes open and closed - Cerebellar deficit
and/or vestibular mechanism deficit
- falls with only eyes closed - Dorsal Column Pathology
Rhombergs test, squatting on one foot
Describe the squatting on one foot
What is a normal vs abnormal finding?
What are two other tests that you could perform?
patient squats on one leg with eyes open and then closed, repeated on the other side
normal - patient maintains posture with eyes open and closed
abnormal - falls with eyes open and closed - cerebellar lesion and/or vestibular mechanism deficit
- eyes closed only - Dorsal column pathology
Rombergs, Hopping on one foot
Describe the Finger to nose test
What is a normal vs abnormal finding?
What are two other tests that you could perform to confirm findings?
patient has arms straight out to the side and then touches the nose with each arm with eyes open and closed
normal - smooth and accurate movement
abnormal:
- Dyssynergia(open): uncoordinated movement
- Dysmetria(closed): inaccuracy in measuring distance
Finger to Finger test, Finger to nose to finger, Heel to shin
