Practicals Flashcards
What else is a stereoscopic microscope known as ?
A dissecting microscope
What does binocular mean ?
The microscope has two ocular lenses
What is the stereoscopic microscope used for ?
Observations at low magnifications
Inter pupillary distance
Adjusting the distance between the eyepiece so that you can see a single field of vision
What is the most common microscopy technique ?
Bright field
How does the image appear in bright field ?
dark image against a bright background
What sort of specimens is brightfield suitable for ?
Viewing high contrast specimens and stained specimens
What is the Nikon Eclipse E200 compound light microscope ?
Combined brightfield, dark field and phase constant microscope
What is a vital stain ?
If the stain is not harmful in the dilution used its a vital stain
What image does a dark field microscope produce ?
A light image against a dark background
What specimens is dark field microscopes used for
Unstained biological specimens
What specimens is phase contrast suitable for?
Examination of unstained live specimens
What does phase contrast microscopy do ?
Converts differences in the speed of light rats passing through media of different refractive indices into contrast of the human eye.
