Q

Preparing sodium chloride from sodium hydroxide and hydrochloric acid

A

1) fill a burets to the 0ml line with the acid
2) measure out 10ml of sodium hydroxide with a pipette. add to conical flask
3) add phenolphthalein indicator to alkali, it will go pink
4) turn tap and slowly let the acid into the alkali until it goes colourless
5) repeat and take an average
6) repeat without indicator

Q

Investigating the change in pH when calcium hydroxide/oxide is added to hydrochloric acid

A

1) measure 50ml of HCl and add to a beaker
2) use pH paper to measure pH of the acid
3) measure 0.3g of the calcium hydroxide/oxide
4) add together and stir
5) measure pH
6) repeat steps 3-6 until 3g have been added
7) use graph to find the exact mass need to neutralise the acid
