What are the Maitland’s Grades of mobilisation?
Grade 1- pain relief. Small amplitude at the beginning of the range
Grade 2- pain relief. larger amplitude not going into resistance
Grade 3: ROM. larger amplitude. performed to resistance
Grade 4: ROM. small amplitude performed into high resistance as end range
What is the oxford grading scale?
0/5 No contraction
1/5 Visible/palpable muscle contraction but no movement
2/5 Movement with gravity eliminated
3/5 Movement against gravity only
4/5 Movement against gravity with some resistance
5/5 Movement against gravity with full resistance
Things to remember to do in the exam
- ASK FOR CONSENT
- Talk through with the examiner what you are doing
- Explain to the patient what you are going to do in non-jargon terms
Exercise prescription: Stretching
American College of Sports Medicine: recommends static stretching at least 2 to 3 days per week and should be held 15-30 seconds and 2-4 reps
Exercise prescription: Strengthening
NLM: recommends 8-12 reps of 3 sets with 60-80% 1RM
