Practical I Flashcards
1
Q
Prone Thoracic Perpendicular Stretch
A
- -laterally stretch any fascial restrictions in paravertebral musculature of thoracic spine
- -free up any rib or thoracic restrictions
- -hold each for 3 seconds
2
Q
Rib Raising
A
- -supine
- -aid in respiration
- -aid in circulation of Pt. w/ congestion
- -pre/post-op care
- -fingers on rib angles
- -completed w/ release of tissues
3
Q
Rib Raising–Lateral Recumbent
A
- -aid in respiration
- -aid in circulation of Pt. w/ congestion
- -ASK OF SHOULDER PROBLEMS
- -rib angles and pull anteriorly and laterally
- -complete w/ release of tissues
4
Q
Pectoral Traction
A
- increase A-P diameter of thorax
- -increase venous/lymphatic drainage of thorax
- -release tension in clavi-pectoral fasica
- -KNEES flexed
- -3 deep breaths/cycles
5
Q
Myofascial Shoulder Release via Scap Lift
A
- -ASK OF SHOULDER problems? Bursitis, bicep tendonitis, shoulder replacement, rotator cuff injury, impingement syndrome, adhesive capsulitis
- -release myofascial restrcitions of shoulder girdle
- -address rib dysfunction
- -medial border of scap w/ hand
- 3 times w/ deep breaths
6
Q
Thoracolumbar Soft Tissue-Supine
A
- -free up motion of ribs 11-12
- -releax paravertebral and quadratus lumborum muscles
- KNEES bent!
- -hold knees
- -complete when tissues are softened
7
Q
Clavi-Pectoral Stretch
A
- -provide drainage of head and neck
- -any illness that may cause edema to head or neck region (tonsilitis, pharyngitis)
- -thenar eminence on ant./sup. shoulders at AC joint level
- -10 pounds of force
- -hold 20 seconds
8
Q
Sacral Inhibition
A
- -to treat diarrhea
- -to treat dysmennorrhea
- -USE CAUTIOUSLY in Pt. w/ SPONDYLOlisthesis or stenosis of lumbar spine
- -direct pressure on sacrum– 1-2 min
9
Q
Post. Cervical Soft Tissue
A
- -treatment of short restrictor muscles
- -finger pads on soft tissue between spinous and articular processes of c vertebrae
- -both sides from occipito-atlantal region to thoracic vert.
10
Q
Thoracolumbar Soft Tissue –Prone
A
- -relax paravertebral muscles and quadratus lumborum
- -free up motion of 11-12 ribs
- -hand over paraspinal muscles adjacent to lumbar spine
- -other hand on ASISc
- -completion w/ release of tissues
11
Q
Lymphatic Pumping
A
- -encourages natural venous return and cirulation in pregnant Pts.
- -combat stasis, congestion, and pooling of body fluids: precursors to inflammation, symptoms of disease and frank disease
- -caution w/ Pts. : metastatic disease, recently post-op, achillies tendonitis
- -40-60 times mintue for 2 mins twice a day
- -slight motion of abdomen
12
Q
Thoracolumbar Soft Tissue Lateral Recumbent
A
- -relax paravertebral and quadratus lumborum muscles
- -free up motion of 4-12 ribs
- -stabilize themselves!
- -thenar eminince in trough area between spinous and transverse processes over erector spinae mass
- -completion w/ softening of tissues or increased ROM
13
Q
Post. Axillary Traction
A
- -increase A-P diameter of thorax
- -promote venous and lymphatic drainage of thorax
- -3 cycles w/ breaths–KNEES FLEXED
14
Q
Ischial Tuberosity Spread
A
- -release fascia of pelvis
- -help sacrum seat itself between innominates (which will reduce forward sacral torsions)
- -thumbs medially to ischial tuberosites
- -lateral pressure
- -cough 3 times and maintain pressure to spread
15
Q
Cervical Stretching
A
- -stretch long restrictors
- stretch myofascial elements of cervical and upper thoracic regions
- promote venous and lymphatic drainage of tissues
- -done slowly to evaluate any barriers
- stretch until release is felt
- -stretch barriers of motion by using one arm to supoort head on shoulder and using other hand to rotate head away from that other hand of yours
