Practical Electrical and Electronic Circuits Flashcards
Rule for current in series
Same at all points
Rule for current in parallel
Sum of the current through each branch is equal to the current through the supply
Rule for voltage in series
Voltage is shared between components (Supply voltage is equal to the sum of voltages across all components)
Rule for voltage in parallel
Voltage across each branch is equal to the supply voltage
cell
supplies energy to the circuit
battery
two or more cells joined together
lamp
converts electrical energy to light
switch
completes and breaks a circuit
resistor
converts electrical energy to heat. Controls current.
LED
light emitting diode. converts electrical energy to light. must have protective resistor connected in series.
relay
consists of a coil and a switch. when current flows through the coil, a magnetic field closes the switch. (converts electrical energy to kinetic.)
transistor
an electronic switch. switches on if the voltage across it is greater than 0.7 V
