Q

MMT: Hip Flexion

A

ADL: Getting in bathtub
Prime Movers: Iliopsoas
Patient Position: Sitting with the knee flexed and foot unsupported. The contralateral foot is on a stool
Proper Stabilization: Stabilizes the pelvis by placing the hand over the ipsilateral iliac crest. Patient grab edge of the table to stabilize body segments.
Resistance: Anterior aspect of the thigh proximal to the knee joint
Gravity Eliminated Position: Side Lying

Q

MMT: Hip Extension

A

ADL: Kicking dog toy, holding door
Prime Movers: Gluteus Maximus, Biceps Femoris, Semitendinosus, Semimembranosus
Patient Position: Prone with the legs in the anatomical position and pillow placed under the pelvis
Proper Stabilization: Stabilize pelvis and patient grasps edge of the plinth
Resistance: The posterior aspects of the thigh proximal to the knee joint
Gravity Eliminated Position: Side Lying

17
Q

MMT: Hip Abduction

A

ADL: Stepping out of car
Prime Movers: Gluteus Medius, Gluteus Minimus, Tensor Fascia Latae
Patient Position: Lies on non test side with the hip and knee maintained in flexion by the patient to stabilize the trunk and pelvis. Hip being tested is slightly extended and in neutral rotation
Therapist Position: Stands behind the patients butt to maintain position.
Proper Stabilization: Position of the non test leg offers stabilization and therapist stabilizes pelvis by placing hand on superior aspect of the iliac crest
Resistance: Lateral aspect of the thigh proximal to the knee
Gravity Eliminated Position: Supine

18
Q

MMT: Hip Adduction

A

ADL: Stepping into car
Prime Movers: Adductor Longus, Adductor Brevis, Adductor Magnus, Pectineus, and Gracilis
Patient Position: Lies on test side. Hip of non test leg is abducted about 25-30 degrees and help in position by therapist providing support under the mesial aspect of the thigh and knee.
Therapist Position: Stands behind against patients butt to maintain the side-lying position.
Proper Stabilization: Patient grasps the edge of the plinth
Resistance: Medial aspect of the thigh proximal to the knee joint
Gravity Eliminated Position: Supine

19
Q

MMT: Hip Lateral (external) Rotation

A

ADL: Putting anklet on
Prime Movers: Piriformis, Obturator Externus, Gemellus Superior, Quadratus Femoris, Gemellus Inferior, Obturator Internus
Patient Position: Sitting with hip in 90 degrees of flexion and neutral rotation. A pad is placed under the distal thigh to keep the thigh in a horizontal position. Midpoint of patella aligned with the ASIS. Leg not being tested is abducted and foot is supported on a stool.
Proper Stabilization: Weight of the trunk provides some stabilization and patient grabs the edge of the plinth to stabilize pelvis. Therapist places a hand on the medial aspect of the distal thigh to prevent adduction of the hip and maintains the position of the femur without resisting movement.
Resistance: Lateral aspect of the lower leg proximal to the ankle joint. The application of resistance stresses knee joint and caution should be exercised
Gravity Eliminated Position: Supine

20
Q

MMT: Hip Medial (internal) Rotation

A

ADL: Putting anklet on
Prime Movers: Gluteus Medius, Gluteus Minimus, Tensor Fascia Latae
Patient Position: Sitting with hip 90 degrees of flexion and neutral rotation.Pad placed under the distal thigh to keep it in horizontal position. Midpoint of the patella is aligned with ASIS.
Proper Stabilization: Weight of the trunk provides some stabilization. Patient grasps the edge of the plinth to stabilize the pelvis. Therapist places hand on the anterolateral aspect of the distal thigh to prevent hip abduction and flexion. Therapist maintains position of the femur without restricting movement
Resistance: Applied on the medial aspect of the lower leg proximal to the ankle joint, Application of resistance stresses the knee joint and caution should be exercised. The alternate test position described for internal rotators may be used in the presence of knee stability.
Gravity Eliminated Position: Supine

21
Q

MMT: Knee Flexion

A

ADL: Adjusting the heel of your shoe
Prime Movers: Biceps Femoris, Semitendinosus, Semimembranosus
Patient Position: Prone lying with a pillow under abdomen. Knee is in extension and tibia in neutral rotation and isolating the medial and lateral hamstrings by positioning the tibia in either internal or external rotation
Proper Stabilization: Pelvis and thigh
Resistance: Proximal to the ankle joint on the posterior aspect of the leg
Gravity Eliminated Position: Side-lying

22
Q

MMT: Knee Extension

A

ADL: Laying on the couch or bed legs straight

Proper Stabilization: At thigh and patient grasps edge of plinth
Resistance: Anterior surface of distal end of the leg
Gravity Eliminated Position:
