- Observation of nose
- Test each side with scent
- Internal exam of nose
Abnormal for CN 1
Anosmia- complete loss of smell
Hyposmia- decrease smell
Hyperosmia- increase smell
Parosmia- perversion of smell
Cacosmia- abnormal disagreeable smell, Psychological disorders or brain lesions

- Visual acuity- Snellens chart
- Peripheral vision- Confrontation
- Pupillary light reflex
- Ophthalmoscopic exam
CN 3 exams
- Corneal light reflex (3,4,6)
- Pupillary light reflex (2,3)
- 6 cardinal fields of gaze (3,4,6)
- Accommodation
CN 5 exams
- Corneal blink reflex
- LIght touch
- Sharp touch
- Inspect muscle of mastication
- Jaw jerk reflex
- Sensation on anterior 2/3 of tongue
CN 7 exams
- Smile/ frown, look up/down
2. Taste on anterior 2/3 of tongue

- Internal ear exam
- Weber/ Rinne
- Finger rustle
- Swivel chair
CN 9,10 exams
- Have patient say AHHHH
- Gag reflex
- Phonation of “Kuhn la mi”
CN 11 exam
- Shoulder shrug

- Stick out tongue
