Having connected to the folder storing your data you can now add that data to the map. You can do this by…
- Locate the data using Catalog window and drag
* Use the Add Data button from the standard toolbar at the top of ArcMap.
As a general rule of thumb layers should be ordered according to data type:
Top
Bottom
Points
Lines
Polygons
Raster
What does the identify tool allow you to do?
Allows you to query the spatial data displayed on the map by clicking on the map directly.
What does the measure tool allow you to do?
Will allow you to measure directly from the map.
Select By Attributes… can be found
under the Selection drop down menu at the top of the ArcMap application.
Select By Location… can be found
under the Selection drop down menu at the top of the Arc Map application.
How would you select settlements which fall within 500 metres of a road?
Select By Location.
