Internal cable/banded shoulder rotations and/or lying internal shoulder rotations
What exercise(s) would you prescribe for shoulder external rotation?
External cable/banded shoulder rotations and/or lying external shoulder rotations
What exercise(s) would you prescribe for elbow flexion?
Bicep curls and/or chin ups
What exercise(s) would you prescribe for elbow extension?
Push ups and/or dumbbell tricep extensions
Can you explain the closed chain/open chain principle?
YOU MAY PARAPHRASE***
There are two types of kinetic chain exercises: open and closed. The difference between the two being in an open chain position, the distal aspect (segment furthest from body), usually hand or foot, is free and not fixed to a surface (i.e. the floor). In a closed chain position, the segment is stationary.
Can you explain the length-tension relationship?
YOU MAY PARAPHRASE***
The length-tension relationship is the amount of tension produced by a muscle, depending on how stretched/shortened it was before the exercise.
Can you explain what a moment arm is (using shoulder complex abduction)?
YOU MAY PARAPHRASE***
Simply put, the moment arm is the length between a joint axis and the of force acting on the joint. In terms of your shoulder complex, let’s say we did dumbbell lateral raises to perform shoulder abduction. The moment arm is at its longest at the beginning of the movement, so it feels rather light, but as we abduct and raise our arms laterally, the load feels heavier and the moment arm becomes shorter.
Can you explain external/internal torque?
YOU MAY PARAPHRASE***
Torque, in general, is the ability of a force to cause rotation. Internal torque is the force that’s produced from muscles of the body (internal force with internal moment arm). External torque originates from outside of the body, like gravity (external force with external moment arm).
What are the muscles used during a bench press?
Pectoralis major, anterior deltoid, triceps
What muscles are used during a push up?
Pectoralis major, anterior deltoid, triceps
What muscles are used during a military press?
deltoids
Demonstrate which phase is concentric and which is eccentric during a military press.
Top of press is concentric, bottom is eccentric
