STUDY
something that can take more than one value, and values can be words or numbers
Variables
NATURE OF VARIABLES - categories that cannot be ordered in any particular way, for example: Male vs Females
Nominal Variables
NATURE OF VARIABLES - Categories that can be ordered from the greatest to smallest. Example: Grades 1 - 12, Income Level
Ordinal Variables
NATURE OF VARIABLES - Values that lie along an evenly dispersed range of numbers, These values have no absolute 0. Example: Temperature
Interval Variables
NATURE OF VARIABLES - Values that lie along an evenly dispersed range of numbers when there is an absolute 0. Example: Test scores
Ratio Variables
4 Kinds of Variables
- Independent Variable
- Dependent Variable
- Intervening Variable
- Confounding Variable
Independent Variable Define
Those that probably cause, influence, or affect outcomes
Dependent Variables Define
For those that depend on the independent variable, the outcomes are dependent on the independent variable
Intervening Variable Define
“Stand Between” The independent and dependent variables and they show the effects of the independent variable on the dependent variable
Confounding Variable Define
Those that are not actually measured or observed in a study exist but their influence can’t be directly detected in a study
